Hello. My name is Peter Nolan. I’m the Founder of Instant Business Intelligence. I wanted to place a short message at the top of our welcome page. The ‘personal touch’ if you like.

I have been working in the Business Intelligence area for 29 years now. And large systems development for 10 years before that.

Today, I believe that the potential value of Business Intelligence is greater than it has ever been. Why?

• Operational Systems are far cheaper and have much more functionality.
• The web and mobile devices have made it possible for most companies to talk directly to most customers for ‘free’.
• Microsoft has moved into BI and released a whole series of products at a fraction of the price of competitive products.
• The fall and fall of hardware prices continues apace and shows no signs of slowing up.

However, I feel there are still three major inhibitors in making Business Intelligence available to ‘the masses’.

1. Data Integration through the use of Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) tools.
2. The lack of industry standard data models at affordable prices on which to build Business Intelligence Systems.
3. The lack of the ability to implement customised Business Intelligence Solutions for Small to Medium Enterprises at a justifiable return on investment.

Experience shows that in any reasonably sized Business Intelligence Project the ETL development and support will consume at least 50% of the 5 year total cost of ownership, and I have seen it as high as 80%. I have always believed this percentage is unacceptably high.

I waited patiently for years to see if the software vendors could do something about this percentage and about the cost of writing and customising ETL ‘programs’. Well, as good as the current ETL tools are, we are still waiting for that order of magnitude productivity breakthrough for ETL development. Until now…

In 2002 I decided to see if I could personally contribute to reducing the cost of ETL development for Enterprise Business Intelligence Systems. I completely re-wrote the previous version of the SeETL RunTime to bring it into the 21st century as well as turn it into a ‘product’. I also added a wide variety of enhancements based on the needs of the ‘early adopter’ users of the product.

As a result, SeETL is now the world’s fastest and cheapest way to implement ETL processing for an Enterprise Business Intelligence System.

• No other ETL tool comes close to the current productivity levels of the SeETL RunTime.
• No other product is offered as open source at a similar price.

With the success of SeETL I decided to found a software company to provide the support required for future releases and developing new products to further cut the costs of Enterprise Business Intelligence Systems.
